Memories of the mill

A collection of pictures of Newsome Mill before, during and after the tragic fire which devastated the landmark building on November 17, 2016.

Only the clock tower, gateway and some ground floor walls now remain of the landmark four-storey Newsome Mill after the devastating fire in the early hours of Thursday November 17. Walls of the mill were demolished that night after the fire had finally been put out.

The blaze had very quickly swept through the entire building before 5am. Firefighters were however able to save the clock tower of the 19th century former textile mill, a grade II listed building.

The mill was a prominent feature on the ridge of the hill at Newsome which could be seen from across Huddersfield, but it had remained in a derelict state for many years since closure in 1983.
